Erma Fiend (the artist persona of Lee Friend Roberts) is a 2x Collision Award-winning director of surreal, mixed-scale stop motion animation for television, web, and beyond.
Evocative and visceral, Fiend’s unique style transcends genres, audiences, and form. Erma Fiend dreamscapes feature real people, sentient objects, and tactile environments.
Erma Fiend began as a featured GIPHY artist in 2016 and has been commissioned to create hundreds of themed GIF stickers for various platforms (for users on Slack or Instagram), as well as several self-portrait GIF art series exploring the fluidity of embodiment, nonlinear time, and the ambiguous states that exist between past & present selves and the external world.
Lee is a Daytime Emmy Award-winning producer with a background designing educational media in staff roles at Sesame Workshop, The New York Public Library, and other organizations. An adjunct professor and guest speaker, Lee presents stop motion workshops, gallery showcases, and concept lectures on animation & nonlinear time.
